Davao 2017 (Part 5)

+ City Hall, San Pedro Cathedral, Rizal, Quezon and Osmena Park +

When in an IT you see that they're going to take you to the ff: Davao City Hall, Osmena Park, Rizal Park, Quezon Park, San Pedro Cathedral and Museyo Dabawenyo and they already charge you more than 50PHP per head, THINK AGAIN. All of them are in walking distance with each other. And if you stay at Balay ni Tuding, you don't need to pay a penny to go these places!

We went out early in the morning (our last day) and possibly have breakfast at the nearby Jollibee but it was still closed (it was just 6AM). We roamed around taking photos, ate taho (with langka!) and was pestered by fake pearl sellers. I bought one just to get him off my hair but instead he taught another one to go at me and sell the same stupid necklace for 1000PHP!

Around 7AM, Jollibee is still closed so we went back to the hotel and ate there instead. We went out afterwards, just in time for the opening of the museum.

It's a small, easy to miss Museum some steps away from the City Hall. It's free but photos are not allowed to be taken within it (which makes me wonder how some blogs have them?!). A tour guide is assigned to answer questions and give some lessons on what's inside which was very educational. Like for instance, this project right here was President Duterte's mom's doing. I also liked how this day is going to interconnect in a few hours via Davao's Datu Bago awards. One of the awardees is the owner of D Bone Museum, our 3rd stop for the day.

You may reach it via jeep and tricycle but as I've said in my previous posts, we've already booked another van for the day. I thought it would be best that since we're already leaving at 11, why not check out altogether? So that's what we did and let the van have our stuff while we roam the city of Davao once more.

Our first stop with the van is D Bone Museum. We were around the schedule of a school field trip and the first bus was just finishing on the 3rd floor when we arrived. We were given a tour guide (gosh I'm really sorry I forgot her name) who was talking as fast as she can to get us through the 2nd floor. But as we approached the 3rd floor we were turned over to the owner himself, Darrell Blatchey.

From the way he speaks, you could feel the love he have for his work, for the animals, for Davao and the Philippines. He knows it's flaws yet he still chose to stay (well his family is here obviously) and is doing what he thinks is good for the community by educating more people via the museum. Like most of what happened so far, a small time talking to him has become one of my most favorite things on this trip and would highly recommend a visit. Entrance is 80PHP.

The anecdotes on how the bones came to be are usually heart wrenching and some with huge dollops of of stupidity. It's irritating at times, especially when you realize that some don't even have to be there at all if only common sense were used.

It's also good to mention that the arrangement of the displays are well thought out. I wonder how long until they outgrew the place since I learned they still have more yet to be unveiled.

+ Jack's Ridge +

I kept on seeing this on different ITs and after going I now know why. It's a good vantage point to look at the city in all it's glory. There are no skyscrapers yet and I could only assume that that right there on the horizon is Samal Island.

The food is delicious plus the climate is cooler than downtown. I could only imagine how cold nights would get around this area. If you've ever been to Cloud 9 in Antipolo, this is a huge upgrade from that. I mean the seating arrangement alone is well thought.

Above meal costs 1,120PHP (no drinks). 5 or more people with average appetites can finish this although in our case, it's just the 3 of us.
