Obviously this has not missed my radar. The first time I have heard of it I immediately followed their PH page and made them appear first on my feed. And on a strike of luck while we were on a train at Japan I checked Facebook to see a fresh post of them giving away passes. Later on I would find out that not only did I win, but I was THE FIRST to reply. I was really meant to go! Initially I wanted to forgo the passes. But knowing the culture when it comes to book sales and going on a Saturday AFTER a holiday Friday is not a wise decision, I decided to just come on the Preview Day (Thursday). I will just render under time. Reagan came with (we met at Ayala, I really hate going there it's so hard to commute) to help me with my purchases. As my yearly tradition of geekness, I attended the 33rd MIBF. What made me excited this year is that 1. Finally my bf can accompany me here and 2. Fullybooked is now one of the exhibitors. Last year National Bookstore has been my sole refuge for novels because most exhibitors cater to students and academic books. Goodwill has a few offerings, mostly old publications and local ones as always. I already have my list of books but unfortunately none of them are available: Cloud Atlas, Michael Vay and Every Day (they said they have in NBS MOA, take note we are already in SMX, but yeah, it's too ironic that I'm already at this bookfair and yet they suggest me to go their branch. I did later that night but they have no copies still :-(). I did get these 5, however, it is a far cry from my back breaking stash last year: IQ84 by Haruki Murakami (FullyBooked) I've always been meaning to buy it but the first book was so huge and bulky I waited for it to have a much more carry version....

  Before this day, I had no plans of ever going because I wasn’t allow to buy any book at all by my boyfriend. He knows I have too many unread books and he insists I finish all of them before I buy new ones. But I was able to have an alibi, all thanks to Alexander Yates. I have first heard of his book, I think a few weeks back on an NBS newsletter (so what if I’m only subscribed to PB and NBS newsletters?!!) which I now rarely look at due to “the ban” but then he’d do book signing and being his first attempt as a writer, I could not resist being one of his audience while there are still a few of them out there. There is always a pleasure for me to be able to get to be the first one to hear of it so I slightly hinted that I MAY go to the fair if I didn’t get lazy. So I went there with a plan: 1. Buy Moondogs 2. Have it signed by Mr. Yates 3. Go home. I was there around around 230 so I had a lot of chance going to and fro elsewhere but I managed to just stay on the NBS Booth....

MIBF Entrance at SMX MIBF or Manila International Book Fair hasn't eluded my eyes again (or so you think since I haven't posted anything after the event). Inspite of being disappointed twice over last year after enticing an officemate to come with and not even coming close to her expectations, I still went here in positive to find gems. To give you reader to know how I do this book buying decision, I am that type who randomly buy books from fairs but I do have this criteria: 1. It must not be too expensive (since it's a fair after all). 2. It must still be intact, no dog ears, no book ridges. 3. The teaser must be exciting, I must have heard it elsewhere or the author is someone I know or have heard. 4. Decisions would only be made after making sure that I haven't seen it elsewhere.
