T&J Travels #9: Kuala Lumpur & Melaka 2017 (Part 10)

+ Batu Caves + We woke up later than usual so we arrived at the station almost 11AM. It's a very convenient tourist spot because once you're out of the station you are literally walking right through the gates. If you plan on feeding the monkeys now is the best time to buy them bananas Thankfully the Indian gods made sure we got a cloudy day. Not rainy and no harsh sun like we had our first day.  Walking through the path towards the famous gold Buddha, I really thought there aren't much people. Not until we arrived at the square did we see where all the tourists are. Because it's almost noon, we decided to eat lunch first. We were joking that we are not going to eat anywhere that only had vegetarian food but since there is no option, I just randomly picked somewhere that had a free table. The dishes here are of Indian origin, none that I know of (except for the Pratta). I picked a combo meal that looked like the ones the other tables have. I enjoyed ...

+ Alor Night Market + We got a GRAB from KL Tower which costed less than a 100PHP even though it's a bit traffic nearing there. Our driver fortunately knows alley ways so he was able to get us as near as possible. The entire strip is filled with different cuisines where some are even exotic. We walked a bit and settled at somewhere that serves other dishes than purely shrimp or chicken. It's been days I don't feel good I feel like eating those would irritate me further and my cold would graduate to asthma. Back in the Philippines, I discovered a saucy noodle dish I never thought I would love: Char Kway Teow. I told Reagan about it but we never had a chance to try it in the Philippines. It wasn't hard to convince him for us to try it and so glad it didn't disappoint. I know it does have shrimp but this is probably better than the other options available. On another day I would love to try those other dishes they have. I remembered loving the spicy seafood back in SG ...

+ KL Tower + Even though it's already our neighbor, we were instructed to wait for the shuttle that takes tourists to the top. Talk about convenience. It's free anyway so why not wait for a while. When we arrived and went to the 2nd floor there was a bit of confusion on which line we should go. It's a bit cramped there so better start asking once you arrive. We were supposed to see the attractions outside first before going up the tower but the one who assists totally blanked out with our request via the cashier that the moment our tickets were spewed out, she proactively took it from the counter and briskly walked us towards the gates. So now we had no choice but follow the rest of the visitors. Our first stop was at the observatory. It's a 360 view of KL but behind a glass. I tried to take photos there but the glass reflects us and the light from the souvenir shelves. There's probably a good setting for this but I'm nowhere near a pro. When we've done the ...

Entrance to the French Village + Rasa Utara + We went to Berjaya Times Square as early as we could. We tried the "secret entrance but found the office is still closed. We decided to eat breakfast instead at Rasa Utara. Roti Canai (ala carte) Mee Goreng w Tea It was delicious! It's been days now but I could still recall that moment I took my first bite on my first meal of the day. A good start for my birthday! + Colmar Tropicale + The Chateau office at Berjaya Times Square When we're done with breakfast we went back to the office. It is now open but they already have some people in. I overheard them speaking about the reservation for tomorrow so I held on hope that we could still get on that shuttle. But when it was our turn, we were told that none are left except for the 2 seats tomorrow, but at 7pm return. Our flight back is 8PM and no sane person would take that. Another couple went in with the same intent but was declined as well. We proposed if they wanted to take a ca...

I am not sure if this is a shortcut because we see no one using it. On the way to the top we saw a group of Koreans coming from the left (possibly another way). It's a good thing no one is going up the stairs too because I had to stop so many times. When we reached the top that's where we found all the tourists to be. Also around the church are souvenir stalls. It is tempting to buy little trinkets but anxiety in talking to strangers stops me from doing so. Unlike the one in Macau , the ruins in this St. Paul are better preserved because it has most of it's walls intact. There are also plaques of rocks that are still in good shape, too bad we couldn't understand what most of it says. At the latter portion of the building is a locked (dry) well for your excess coins you would like to trade a wish for. Since the church is on a hill, you could oversee some buildings within the area. There's the mall and an open space for events. In our visit they are erecting canopies ...

+ Stadthuys (Red Square) + Christ Church, the Muzium Sejarah dan Ethnografi and the Clocktower are right on that square. Christ Church even if it's currently under renovation (?) is still open even if the front doors aren't. There's a small door on the left where you could go in for free. They do take donations if you wish. It's a quaint one. It's a bit hard to take photos around especially that people love to take the altar for their own. Interior is small so it would certainly be much crowded at it's peak. When we were about to leave there were even more coming in. There's an upper deck outside where you could take a photo of the entire square. It's very much an ideal post but that area is congested with selfie addicts. All the time Reagan and I just kept nudging at each other to all of them, giggling on the side. The Museum was next. It's a large complex. There were a lot of exhibits inside so it's easy to lose track of time. I also found it...

We badly need this in the PH (sorry bad front cam) Based on the map, Melaka (Malacca) is a 2 hr trip one way. We started the day going to their bus hub which have impressed me a lot. I was half expecting it to be filled with barkers, and the place to be smelly and dingy. So imagine my surprise when I walked in. Their hub IS MILES AWAY from most of our airports combined! It's well lit, there is an abundance of chairs (!) and efficient ! You don't need to ask 10 random people which bus to take . You buy your ticket from the counter and would be told which door the bus would be waiting. And if you forget that, oh look, your tickets have those details too, up to what time your bus leaves. The toilets are clean and huge and surprise, with water. Jeez, of all the trips I've ever made, this one made me feel a lot like a 3rd world countryman. So anyways, if you also plan in going to Melaka, bring the ff: 1. Large Water bottle (cheaper to buy than getting some at the stalls in Melak...
