T&J Travels #7: Singapore 2016 (Part 2)
On the map, the looks of the places of interest looked so far apart with each other I was thinking it would not give us the time to finish them all. The park is so huge it's impossible to not lose weight walking to and fro here everyday. It's also quite hot but surprisingly as Reagan noticed, we're the only ones with an umbrella.
We saw one coffee shop to have breakfast but chose to go with McDonalds instead. As usual we got the big breakfast (I want this to be a thing) and this is tastier than what we had in HK even if the patty is different (we guess chicken). What's odd is how the bacon is a bit flimsy and not the crunchy ones I was used too. And!! No hot chocolate. Just Milo. And it's 3x more expensive than here (more in the plate too!). We spent SGD 20.4 in total which is roughly PHP 700 in our money.
After breakfast we head on to the OCBC Skyway (SGD 8). Apparently there is a notice that they only allow around 70 people and 15 minutes of stay. We were lucky that there's not much people by this time and we got on freely.
I'm not afraid of heights but my legs already felt that the structure may be sound, it is hanging. There is nothing to be scared of though, there are tons of cables supporting the walk, but still, the body is definitely feeling it. Probably just me. Took a while for Reagan to feel it too. Here, umbrellas are not allowed (it's suddenly cloudy yes!) which is for everybody's safety I guess. It could become a hazard especially that the wind here is moderately breezy.
+ Cloud Dome and Flower Dome +
Oh my. The entrance of the Cloud Dome (SGD 56 for both domes, two adults) is guaranteed to take your breath away. We had it and the groups of people that came next. It's also cold in here as well which I definitely love. There are a wondrous number of plants here most of which we've never seen before. A series of sculptures (mostly dragons) here and there abound which is placed perfectly amongst the plants. I wonder how many proposals already happened here!
The Flower Dome is a different story, the environment is quite humid. I did enjoy seeing more plants and flowers close to touch. Since it's December, there are tons of Christmas installations inside, very good for photo ops.
After the domes, we walked around the area and walked around the park some more. There are more sections to be seen, most of which are void of people. A cloudy day would have made us tarry longer.
+ Maxwell Food Centre +
Going there involved going to Chinatown and Little India. We also found ourselves going at a mall where I bought moisturizers when I found out I forgot to bring any. Surprisingly this has become one of my best buys when I learned I got them half the price back home.
The area of Maxwell is currently being renovated but the food court isn't so it's still good to go to eat. There are some stalls closed but we were able to try the famed Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice and some other dishes too.
+ Shopping +
We retraced our steps and was able to get back to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. We arrived just in time when the monks are chanting. Obviously I understand nothing but it was an enchanting experience.
After a while we decided to leave and started to walk at the shopping area where we found ourselves purchasing pasalubongs, dubiously cheap but we bought them anyways. A lot of the things you see in any of the tourist spots we'd be going are already here and truly cheap in comparison. When we had exhausted ourselves, we went back to the hotel for a quick nap and to drop all of our items.
*All prices are total for two adults.
