The Soon to be Lifestyle Bible (LOL)

Image
You may need to psyche yourself before seeing the contents of this magazine. Me and sister had a hearty laugh on the grocery sneaking a peek on it. I am sure not buying one but we weren't disappointed when her (youngest sister) predictions were accurate. We were only able to look at a few pages because it was already our turn at the counter wahaha! But as predictions are concerned it's Kris on every page (we've seen) even on the ads. Sister also wonders how long this would survive. Dunno. Probably 2 to 3 tops. LOL

My Last Will and Testament (3.18.10)

Image
I could not believe I have this on drafts. I'm older now and I find this so juvenile of me. It really doesn't matter if everyone of you reads it (oh Ed will you understand this? It's 98% in Filipino) because I wrote this back in 2006. Take note, I forgot who I was referring to this line: 'Kung naging crush mo rin pala ako sa parehong panahon na nagkagusto ako sa iyo ay malas na lang natin. Kaw kasi ang bagal mo.'. But as I was reading the entire thing, well it's not bad. I never thought I can be a deep person sometimes, let alone when this was years ago. I wonder what got into me. Enough of the disclaimers. Here it is in full text:   ++++++++++++++++   Revision: August 31, 2006, 1:16 pm Ang Aking Habilin at Testamento    Kamusta? Nagulat ka ba? Oo.

Racism Example #1: (3.17.10)

This is quoting Jane Lynch on her character in Glee. "Sue Sylvester: Let me break this down for you, okay? I empower my Cheerios to be champions. Do they go onto college? I don't know, I don't care. Should they learn Spanish? Sure, if they wanna become dishwashers and gardeners. But if they want to be bankers and lawyers and captains of industry, the most important lesson they could possibly learn is how to do a round off. "   If you still didn't get what she just said up there, her character actually leaves a slur on Latinas or any other Spanish race out there who most often ends up as we see on TV and movies as maids (e.g. Hot Chick, Will & Grace, The Nanny Diaries). Take note no one cared. And this is quite an insult mind you. But did you hear any of them protest on TV and ask for public apology or a worldwide boycott? A resounding NO. And to think these are just kids (3.15.10)

*This would only take a minute to read* As I was getting the laundry yesterday I was overhearing kids who were having typical kid conversations about toys and who was angry with who and the likes. Normally I would shrug this off thinking I won't get anything from them until it came to this one statement translated in English: 'Who are you guys up for? Manny or Noynoy?' (when no one answered she added) 'I don't like Noynoy. He's just using his family' I think she's wise to see that. Don't you?

A New Police Story (3.10.10)

Rating: ★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Action & Adventure I may not be a certified film critic but this I really find a masterpiece and I believe to be really effective beyond it's time. This has been shown years before another Chan-Wu collaboration I know of (Shinjuku Incident) and the chemistry between the two emphasize the brilliant actors that they are. One of the things most people who rely on mainstream really miss this kind of stuff, like Chan does not only do comedy Kung Fu, but he can do drama on screen too. A movie with a very good trailer (I forgot which movie I've seen it with) this has exceeded beyond what I expected. They may have teased me with too many iconic scenes but they have reserved a whole lot seeing the movie in those two hours. Makes you believe Asian movies can do better than most international ones we are all accustomed to

You mean I haven't changed a bit?!! (3.12.10)

Image
I bought sneakers last Wednesday and wore it the next day. On that particular morning, youngest sister remarked that I haven't bought new shoes at all because it really looks like the one I used to have when I was in college. That up there is a comparison of the old and new shoes. The one on the left is from World Balance (go on I'm stingy) and the other was from Reebok. Never mind how that old one looks freakingly dirty guys. I haven't worn it ever since I got out of college and that was years ago. Also you do not need to mention why the hell they really looked alike and from different brands because I'm still wondering why. Looking at those two shoes I do some psychology on myself. I don't know how to but let me know what you think. First of what I remembered was how my sister, the middle kid, told me before when she was convincing me to have new contacts, this time those that changes someone's eye color. I refused saying my contacts are fine as they are,

The Villar Mansion Email (3.10.09)

Weeks ago I received this email and it goes something like this: "Imagine who would have such taste and live in such opulence? An American Billionaire? A Saudi Prince? Louis XIV of France ? Savour the pictures then scroll to the bottom of the page to see who owns this Work of Art. " After a few photos (which I won't include here) has the following statement: "This Mansion is in Salt Lake City , Utah , USA and belongs to: Senator Manny Villar of the Philippines While Filipinos starve, and die because of abject poverty ....and while Sen. Villar brags that he had poor beginnings and he had helped his poor countrymen over and over again... but look now.. he and his family live like this.......his GREED kills his poverty stricken fellow Filipinos . PLEASE send this to everyone you know. They can send it to everyone they know. Soon Filipinos around the world will know what this man is doing to the people he wishes to serve if elected President. " To set things

Hurt Locker won. Why am I not surprised? (3.9.10)

Out of all the 10 nominees, Hurt Locker won. No surprise there. Obviously when a movie is about war or soldiers it is bound to win. Much more like independent movies with themes in poverty and homosexuality. Reminds me of that article I read that you have to remember who does the judging. I distinctly remembered he wrote 'old people who rarely got out'. So the win went to the one who has a producer desperate enough to send out 'vote for us because our movie has more sense than the gazillion profited one our director's exhusband made' emails. As much as the movie goes I don't have any idea if it was indeed good. I haven't watched it yet nor am I planning anytime soon. But oh well. This is just me bitter that two of my (newly added) favorite films* of all time hasn't won any major award (I think Up won something but not that of a big deal) which though not a judge knew that the only thing that makes me bet for them is my loyalty to liking them inspite o

When You think of Noynoy, Think of Kris (3.7.10)

Image
I was writing a different blog while preparing for dinner when I heard what was on the TV. Sister left it on Showbiz Central (GMA Channel 7) and what do you know. A scoop. What was on was Pia interviewing Annabelle Rama on phone. I still remember her first one on one interview with 'The Mom' and it proves two things: Pia is that of a novice when it comes to interviews that when faced with an armalite type of a talker she would be reduced to a stump and Annabelle is one hell of mother. It was I think, extremely awkward. If I was one of the directors that day I might have fired Pia or have her do some small stunts. Even Mo can fare better. Knowing this, you'd think the directors would have learned their lesson. But it didn't as they allowed it to happened again, they had Pia talk to Annabelle the second time (I don't know if this was but it is to me) this time on the phone. But even if they weren't actually facing the same thing happened again. Annabelle was ta

The Fourth Kind (3.1.10)

Image
Rating: ★★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Science Fiction & Fantasy Since docu-movies are a rave nowadays, here's another of the kind only that they get to reenact some scenes, making the docu part seem more 'authentic' looking, add to that the Jovovich speech both at the beginning and at the end. Sister got it right on the most apt description-- disturbing. To me it really is even if it's all screams and more screams. Never thought that would give me goosebumps. And I think they were quite effective in generating a dilemma in the viewer in whether to believe it or not. I haven't watched too many abduction films but this is surely one I'd remember.

(Another) This would only make sense to Lost Fans

My First Movie Premiere (3.1.10)

Image
I can't believe how my sister managed to win another set of tickets again. I only won three things in my life so far, all wasn't by chance. She however, has won movie 3 premiere tickets of the movie The Fourth Kind on the same day they were having the premiere. What a luck. Anyways, she told me that it is around 6, and I was saddened I couldn't go. I came late in the office, 9:32 to be exact, so that's 8 hours after that. But here's the thing, inspite of the tickets saying they'd be starting at 6, they started at around 8pm. Enough time for me to commute here from Taguig to MOA. I had luck on the bus in Market! Market! because once I sat the driver decided to finally leave even if there are like only 10 of us passengers. I hastened out of it when it reached Ayala and I hit my left wrist right on the pulse area. I tried to ignore it but as I walked it kind of hurt. Looking at it, it was kind of... scary. The vein became so bloated I thought it would pop. At that

12 Words You Can Never Say in the Office

Disclaimer: Not mine. Saw in the local webpage here in EDC. They haven't included the link either   If you're old enough to understand the reference in this headline -- George Carlin, anyone? We've put together a list of outdated tech terms, phrases that you shouldn't be using at work anymore because they will make you seem old. This is especially true if you're looking for a new job. For example, on an interview, you should be talking about "cloud computing," not "ASPs" even though they are basically the same thing. This list is useful for 20-somethings, too. Now when the senior person in the office uses one of these terms, you'll know what he's talking about.   Intranet Popular in the mid-90s, the term "intranet" referred to a private network running the Internet Protocol and other Internet standards such as the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). It was also used to describe an internal Web site that was hosted behin

When Ninoy and Cory became Christmas

I have the feeling that the couple is becoming more like Christmas --> more about commercialism and false meaning than the real thing. Go on. Continue the legacy. Buy yourself a 6k worth of phone and be patriotic. Who knows.
