Really? A Cheating Gene?! (12.25.09)

Image
Alone at our house, I get to have the place on my own. And while I was convincing myself to write that Avatar review I went on to play Sims 3 and had the tv on to Tyra. There was nothing good so I just had it on that channel without any intention of watching it. I just need some bit of noise. They were discussing 'cheating'. Cheating not on exams of course. That one where your partner is not satisfied with just you. Yes that cheating. Oh the dreaded word. Never in my whole life would I ever thought I'd experience it but that's a different story. I wasn't exactly concentrating on listening and but I knew that it's the same old format where they get to discuss and interview people with first hand experience and bla bla bla. And then Tyra asked the audience if they've ever experienced their cheating partner to blame what they do on their 'Cheating Genes'. I haven't researched on it but I'm hoping what Tyra's reading on her cue cards...

Up (12.22.09)

Image
Rating: ★★★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Animation [Uhm. Spoiler alert?] What I think in this movie is summed up by this statement: 'If you haven't seen it, watch it'. I remember quite well that Up was a blockbuster alongside huge movies and I can clearly see why. It has everything, and I mean everything that makes everyone of us would appreciate. The characters are adorable, and the scenes invoke feelings without trying too much, I even cried when Ellie died! Outrageous are some ideas (well, obviously the one with the balloon thing is one) but it's so forgiveable you won't think any less of Up as a whole. And for me it is devoid of something that is annoying. At some films I get so pissed off with the kids either being a brat or just plain foolish whilst, here, even Russell is a character to be loved (But it's a talking dog!!!). Aww. All I need to do now is to add it to my list of favorites. And I would love to see it again.

If We Are All Left Naked (11.21.09)

I hope that my friends won't think of me less after reading this. I just thought this is fun. Notice the one in 10 is actually one of the reasons how people came to thought of doing something about their nakedness. 10. No one would be living in places where snow falls. 9. Excessive body hair would be a fad especially when temperature gets too cold. 8. The most popular industry would be anything that will enhance body features. 7. What you look when you go to a 'black tie' event (if there is even one) is same as when you go to your job interview. 6. There is no way you can fake that you are not expecting because your tummy is out in the open. 5. Marciano, Yves San Laurent, Victoria' Secret, FHM, Playboy, Tyra Banks and the likes are probably jobless and names we are not familiar of. 4. The 'tall, dark and handsome' line? Come on. It would probably be 'tall, dark and endowed'. 3. Men and women have one less thing to lie about. I've read it nume...

The Godfather Trilogy (10.10, 11.2009, 11.2.2009)

Image
Rating: ★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Classics If there is are two things that are recurring in MTV Cribs (not that I watch it that much... but a sister of mine usually does) it is when the celebrities show off their bed saying 'this is where all the magic happens' and their entertainment rooms that are 99% of the time, has the movie The Godfather. If it's because it's a Mafia movie or it is just a wonderful flick for them I won't know, but I'm betting that it's because of the first one: gangs. I admit that I wasn't impressed watching the first one. Especially when I can still remember how that hand of the huge guy, the one that starts with an L (sorry ^_^) is stabbed and is wrongly edited showing two different injured hands in his last scene. Retelling this to the one who loaned me the copies I think he researched about it saying there are too many scenes such as that in the first, but never mentioned in the last two installments. But what I lack in enthu...

Real Men does, Real Men don't (10.24.9)

Image
Of my age not even close to an online friend of mine who is clearly a few of the people who I can say is not a waste of carbon dioxide and evolution (yes, let's admit that there are those who just consume resources and has attitudes and brains devoid of sense), I know for a fact I have no reason to write this blog without someone who'd say 'who are you to tell?'. You see I remember Chelsea from her show (Chelsea Lately) pass judgement on Miley's 'memoirs', saying the pop star is not even half her (Chelsea) age (and sexual experience as she pointed out) to even deserve a memoir. The point is, I'm noticeably not that old to write what I'm about to write, but I'm doing it anyway only because this IS after all my blog. It all started at out with our late lunch at KFC which included me, Jin and Wilvic at the previous event of Komikon. What happened was this: Jin: Real men does not listen to Taylor Swift. Wilvic : Real men does not say they are real...

Komikon (10.18.9)

A first for Komikon to be out of UP, I said prior at the Komikon Summer Blog that I don't think that being out of the grounds is a good idea. For one, comic readers, especially those who patronize indies though some are 'geeky types' aren't any least showy. And you are more sure that when they exert their effort of going to UP, they are up for 'buying something'. I've also talked to a few people who are comic (indie) publishers as well and we all agree that we enjoy the seclusion in Bahay ng Alumni. Another reason as suspected, cosplayers are still there (oh, I've even seen Ms. Keuls), though I can only deduce that the reason that they're there is because it's a lot like Simbang Gabi where when you get to complete the entire thing (Komikon is the last event of the 4-day PICA fest) you can wish to the cosplay gods and expect it to come true. Now, the bad news is that we weren't able to secure a table since a whole lot has signed up earlier th...

A Drop Of Water Raises the Sea (10.3.9)

It has been exactly a week after Ondoy brought havoc to our major cities. Again, you know how it is for me who gets to come home late, most of my knowledge of what had happened are from officemates, a few glimpses on tv and the AM radio which my father has a habit of listening to first thing in the morning. + My Saturday Day prior I was told to do overtime on that Saturday. Inspite of yearning for much needed rest I complied only to be told to just go home. Boss didn't go when we both realized rain outside was pouring heavily, and to think I'm already in the office. And so after a hearty lunch, which I ordered as soon as I came, in fear that no rider would ever accomodate my delivery, I gave the keys to the guard and went out. There wasn't a jeep. Not that I rely on it that much because I can catch one if I just walked to the highway. So I walked towards Alabang-Zapote road since I can't possibly walk from office to ATC at this condition, wind was so powerful my huge ...

A (New) Ray of Light (9.26.9)

Note: If I die after this post, you know who probably done it. Having became a slave for the past three weeks now and counting, doing OT at Saturdays (yeap, including that one Holiday too) and nights I should be under the covers, I have missed my Saturday movie dates, the news, blogging, regular internet time and other stuff that I barely have heard of this news if weren't for Yahoo. In case you didn't have the same situation as mine but have barely heard of this then this must be not worthy of a headline at all. Ask me and I'd say it probably is. No offense to those who think this is of course. On preview it said that Congress has passed a bill or whatever it is that they call it to modify, yes modify, our flag and add a new ray to our sun. No, I can barely remember what all the rays stand for but I'm 99% sure one of the rays stands for Cavite-- one of the provinces that played a huge part in the Independence most of us take for granted nowadays. It said...

Noynoy Who? (9.26.9)

Note: I'm not anti-Noynoy. If I get to live the rest of my life after this post it just means that Democracy still runs in the country. If I didn't then one of these two succeding posts may have done it (haha XD). I assume you haven't read my late Mrs. Aquino post so I'm saying again, I wasn't even in my mom's womb yet when the First Female President started her term. So her supposedly memory of mine wasn't only vague, I didn't have the ability to understand yet. So basically I am not those of my age who suddenly declared their inspired spirits after her death as if they had any idea. Years in school taught me of the Aquino family. I know Ninoy and Cory. Not their full achievements of course, but I get the idea of who they are and their part in our history. It's no secret too that they're the parents of a celebrity that may die when you say to her face you don't know her. They're also the parents of some Ballsy person I am only familiar...

Campus Road Trip (9.20.9)

Image
Rating: ★ Category: Movies Genre: Kids & Family I wasn't thinking of anything when I decided to watch this on Star Movies. I was hoping that since Lawrence is around I should at least watch it. It was a bit funny, but usually with the part of the pig. The plot isn't even new and having watched movies with Dads having a hard time letting go of their kids made this quite boring compared to the rest. They even went as far as adding outrageous scenes, the top in the list is that sky diving part. And that part where Raven was doing a song number? Argh. It wasn't even catchy. Not a recommend, but not that annoying either. Either way, I don't think this is something worth remembering at all.

Mall Exhibits: Ral Arrogante (9.6.9)

Why is there a Cosplay.ph on MIBF?!! (9.19.9)

Oh yes! I don't have any photo though, BUT it doesn't erase the fact that they had an exhibit there. They even have a larger booth than Visprint Publishing! I haven't even recovered from the last "comic con" I was in where they've totally stole the spotlight away from the comic artists who are suppose to be garnering the attention and now this? Is this some awareness program of some sort? But why in a Book Fair? Don't we have too many cosplays already? Isn't the attention enough? There's even a cosplay contest in TV5 for Pete's sake! I know I go to cosplay cons, and it's obvious with most of my album/blog posts but this? They're probably invade the next comic con on Megamall (I said from a much more previous Komikon Summer post that I don't take it as a good news for us indies to be moving from Bahay ng Alumni to Megamall because I fear most of them cosplayers don't care nor are aware of our existence anyway) as usual but can t...

Manila International Book Fair (9.19.9)

If it wasn't for the RD Humor issue father brought home I wouldn't have had known of this fair. Goody they even have a free pass so I came, though late with meeting my female officemate, I was genuinely enthusiastic. No, there wasn't that signature smell of old and new books but my eyes were so wide taking everything in. But books are everywhere, left, right and center (an HP joke) that we don't know where to start. Officemate wanted to look for this comic series I introduced her so we scoured the halls looking for it only to find out that they sell it same priced compared to regular bookstores. She was hoping it would be priced less but it wasn't. We even missed the author himself because he came yesterday. It was also weird finding this publisher, who have been successful most of the time with their authors/comic artists to a wide range of audience, at the very back and can easily be missed. We almost didn't find it if it weren't for the map. We almost...

Jabbawockeez (9.5.9 - 9.6.9)

(If the spell above ain't right don't hate me alright?) 9.5.9 Saturday I didn't know them before my sister insisted on coming. Working at an office in Alabang she pleaded me to accompany her only that I can't because I'm occupied with overtime work at that particular Saturday, our first attempt. She came alright, but what, hours before it started. If I was to come with her from Cavite I could have suggested for us to have left at around 4:30 and not on that terminal where I used to ride a shuttle from-- waiting there takes forever, believe me, unlike the one where I now go to, who also have a dispatcher with a sunny disposition anyone would be amused of always coming back. Anyways, so she came at around 8, (I, however, logged off and came to ATC 30 mins earlier inspite of the heavy traffic going there, when my waiting was spent on National Bookstore where I bought 3 books on a cutoff sale, The Robe, Blaze and a Kindaichi Files Manga) where at that time you'd ...

Oh No Kanye, You Didn't! (9.15.9)

No, it's not an excuse I rarely watch music videos nor award shows that I can't have a say on this issue. First of all Kanye is such a prick and a notorious guy. Through the years he's in the music industry all he showed is his rage and how foul mouthed of a guy he is. And now he ranted his insecurities and jealousy towards Taylor Swift, a promising singer/song writer. The incident goes on with Kanye gate crashing over Taylor's acceptance speech for an award saying that there are more videos 'greater' than hers. What he did is just too immature of him and a clear tv broadcast bullying. The nerve of this guy who can't accept that there is this young girl, who may not be as long in the industry as he is, but accepts recognition from various award giving bodies. Too bad for him that Taylor is so successful nowadays that her SOLO ACTS are hits unlike his. I know that I may not be eligible to be called a music lover but I can give you 5 songs that she made big...

Why I’m boycotting the Twilight Series (8.22.2009)

Image
DISCLAIMER: Don’t flame me if you’re a fan. I don’t have the time to deal with you so you know what’s best at this type of posts. You simply ignore it. Ok fine. I read the book, rated the entire book series 3 stars and watched the first movie. Well to make it clear I watched it BEFORE I even dared read it. And I read it because I thought there is MORE Meyer offered on the book. Thinking about it, to me it was just ok and IS JUST ENOUGH for me to finish it. But it WASN’T that good that... 1. It would make me watch the succeeding movies expecting that it would be better than the first nor even tolerate the thought of watching it with ignorant juveniles on movie theatres who’d probably be screaming the entire time. 2. I would shout out to the world how good it is. 3. If asked the tiring question, which was better, Harry Potter or Twilight and I’d ever choose the latter? No freaking way. Stephen King followed the HP series. Twilight however have some hopeless emos on its list. Actually, I ...

Who will cry for Borgy? (8.17.9)

Image
Monday morning my father told me that our dog was about to die. I just took a bath then, but I was scared that I called him by our window. I didn’t notice how weak he was until he immediately moved his head to my call, no, not to the window where he was closer to and where I was, but to the door. His eyes were blank staring hard at the door as if he was trying to look for me but couldn’t see. And then he lazily dropped his back to the ground, as if it was his last effort to move. And when I was about to leave, I stopped by and came by his side looking at him, hearing him catching his breath. By the time I was on the van on the way to work, father said he just died. At that moment I didn’t cry. It’s probably the stupid noise on the radio or me being aware that he was about to pass away that didn’t made me shed a tear. But when I came to work and narrated what happened to an officemate who also owns dogs I can’t help my eyes to well with tears. I don’t care if that camera overhead sees m...

Secret (9.15.9)

Image
Rating: ★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Romance What was mysterious with XiaoYu was obvious from the start. If a viewer would not have guessed that there is something wrong with her character, they would not have been completely paying attention with the hints laid all throughout. A love story that was almost tragic, it is a break from all the tragic one-of-the-character-dies endings we are so used to watch. But even if I wasn't any surprised with the twist, I'm a Lost fan afterall (hey that's already a spoiler), I think that at least what they've done is a wise deviation from an idea that has been used for so many times already. At least we can all see the effort. And one more thing. Has anyone noticed how most characters in films of our neighboring countries here in Asia are musical prodigies? And most of which are geniuses in piano?

Yes you read it right. Two days. F or the first time in my history of con-going I (err... we) are present for two days. It's also OUR first time in MCC (which I still haven't heard the reason why suddenly it's Metro not Manila Comic Con), first time to sell our stuff in Megamall, first time I wasn't by the stage to watch the 10 second poses of cosplayers/costrippers, first time that Wilvic's on the booth, first time to wear an exhibitor's (well, ours was written SPONSOR. Sir Heubert said they ran out of EXHIBITOR's) id passes (UP Komikon's doesn't have those IDs), first time I get to call cosplayers to actually come to our booth since I rarely have the time to roam around, first time to 'actually' do sales talk (which is primarily caused by Tepai and Maika next to us). first time to see Czarina out of her Otaku's Den, first time a friend of mine who actually went there just to visit and buy our stuff, and a whole lot of first times. ...

Fly Me To Polaris (8.5.9)

Image
Rating: ★★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Romance After being happy with portrayal of Eric Tsang, the amiable Sam on Infernal affairs trilogy, here he is again, playing the role of Jumboball, the friend of the protagonist, Onion (Richie Ren). A love story (yes, a love story believe it or not) between a blind and mute patient (Onion) and of Miss Autumn (Cecilia Cheung), a nurse. Both are in love with each other but even before they get to have the chance to have them known, Onion dies in an accident. The story goes on with Onion having a chance of 5 days stay on earth so he'd be able to see her once again. In his given days, he gets to meet probably the two most important people back when he was alive, Jumboball who used to make him salty lemon seven while he (Onion) gives him a massage. Later on, this is the last indicator that he (Jumboball) gets to know that right before in his eyes is Onion only not who he used to 'see'. And obviously he meets Autumn (who dare ...

Infernal Affairs 1 (7.25.9)

Rating: ★★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Foreign One of the things that I was a bit worried about was it looked old already. But I think a sign of a really good movie is when it surpasses time and is still something worthwhile to watch something like this. Even without the flashy cars and gadgets, this is still as adrenaline pumping as it gets. I was even having a hard time on who I should be having a crush on (something out of the movie but I have a need to mention), whether it would be one of my oldest crushes Edison Chen, or now, Andy Lau or Tony Leung who is freakingly similar to someone I liked back from college. Knowing that there are 3 installments of Infernal I thought I'd be seeing Leung's character on the next ones but seeing now that he's (well sorry for spoiling you) dead by the end I can't imagine how the other ones would be like. But yeah. I loved it. I'd say it beat out a lot of cop movies from Hollywood just by mere screenplay. And wow. Wh...

Rainy Days and Mondays (7.13.9)

Rainy Days and Mondays (7.13.9) Sleepless nights it's no wonder I got late again coming to work. I even reached my station minutes later than my officemate who almost always comes last and late than the rest in the 4th floor (I'm hoping he hasn't read this or it's meatloaf again). And then there's the rain by noon. There is nothing more ironic than being dismissed early (I was told there was a strike) and still gets home late due to a series of things. With rain comes heavy traffic. And obviously if the company you're in does an early dismissal then it's no wonder others would do the same. But out of everything, obviously it's the rain that I don't like the most. I do love it when I'm at home, the feeling of never getting up of bed is so wonderful and brings back memories of school days but now as an employee, that's one more simple pleasure slashed out of my list or probably for most. Gone are the days when all you have to do is hope that P...
