Friendly Guidelines: Before asking anything, kindly check the UPDATES section which is at the bottom of the original post (please be guided that this was a post last year) and the COMMENTS section for some Q&As. Thanks!

Friendly Guidelines PART 2 (4.12.2013) : I know that this maybe the post that have the most traffic on it, but guys, please please please, back read the comments before asking me anything. I'm honestly getting tired answering the same questions over and over. I'm really sorry if this sounds too mean, but I don't get paid for this, okay? I need to sleep too. It annoys me that I can't reply to your queries but it is inconvenient for me too. So if I haven't answered your question, it only means you need to read the ENTIRE POST and the ENTIRE COMMENT section because the answer literally sits there. Just have patience and you won't even need to ask me anymore. Sorry guys in advance.

Okay so it may sound weird but I'm one of those people who does not own a credit card. I do own a handful of debit cards (all active anyway) and that's what I use for all cashless transactions. I also have Gcash for Multiply suppliers and anywhere it's accepted but there are just some times that a CC is what you need to make a valid transaction. But it is really disappointing that debit cards that I currently own just doesn't register with Paypal, hence, it's inconvenient for me to buy apps, book flights or even hotels online. So when I heard of the ePrepaid Credit Card of BPI I was eager to sign up.

SIGNING UP

I don't enjoy personal banking. Like as in physical. I do visit banks to transfer funds in different accounts but that is something that could not be helped*. So since most of my transactions are online, I also applied this via web.

You need to visit bpiexpressonline, find the Prepaid link and you will be directed to a form where you are required to fill important details for your record. Do not forget to tick the card that says ePrepaid which also gives you the option to choose what color your like for your card to be.

After everything is filled up, you only need to print the page that says Print this page (but I also print screened the notification message just for sure) printed it out ready. Don't forget this when you claim your card.

CARD PICKUP

I applied on a Sunday, called them on a Monday and it was already there. I forgot to bring any IDs so I went the next day. Do prepare a photocopy of your valid ID in case the branch you're on doesn't have a photocopy machine. After presenting my card, I was told to pay a fee of 500 php (which I thought was initial load but wasn't) and that's it. I'm off to go.

CARD ONLINE ENROLLMENT

How easy it was to own one but it took me another day just to load the card. The reason why it is is because BPI has this online enrollment rule that whenever you attempt to apply your card to your online account, you have to present your application to them personally. Which in this case, I did the next day, only to learn that it will take atleast 2 weeks for it to be registered on my online account. Thinking that this is another hurdle, I tried mobile banking but that didn't work out either.

So the only option left for me was what I dreaded. Over the counter loading.

CARD LOADING

So while I wait for it to register on my online account to make my life easier to move funds, I went to the bank again just to load.

If you've ever been to BPI lately, they now have machines that replace deposit slips and physical queues that once your number is up the teller automatically knows what transaction they are to encounter.

It does look easy but it's a bit hard for ePrepaid cards because it's not an obvious option on the machines. What was taught to me was to choose third party merchant and use the card number as reference.

On the actual counter where I'm going to pay the teller, I was lucky that she was able to ask someone who knows how to deal with this loading business. She got it all right after the instruction given to her. She even confessed refusing to accept previous transactions before since they don't know what to do with it. I was just really lucky that I was the first they did accommodate. My load came the next day.

BALANCE CHECK

To check for balance, all you need is to text 2274 on the ff format: BALECCARD NUMBER and whoala! Normal service tax rates apply which is 2.50 I think.

While could always apply a real line credit card, there is con to owning a real one at all. Here are all the reasons why I chose this Prepaid option:

1. No Annual Fees
There are some stories of being able to dodge the payment of annual fees by threatening to cancel accounts, having good credit standing, befriending the agent and a dozen more options but still, the other fees attached to your cc, like not being able to pay on time, are still payments not be reckoned with. On this card, you only get to pay 500 for 2 years and that's it. You don't even need to worry about interest rates since you have already paid for the credit you are using.

2. Worrying about the usage
You won't exactly over use it right?

3. Security
The reason why I packed myself with debit cards is because in the case of it being in the hands of a malicious being, there is no way for them to know what my pins are, making them useless. With this type of card, while I cannot withdraw the amount, I could simply load the card exactly of what I needed, that if they plan to use it without my permission, it will be of no use to them as well since it doesn't have a credit left.

4. No CC agent
Yay! I remembered how my mom used to be harassed by CC agents who are endlessly annoying. None of them on my card!

5. For as long as it's a Mastercard...
You can use it anywhere. I haven't tried it on a store but I will surely do when the need arises (I'd keep using debit cards unless not accepted) so for now I'll have to settle on online shopping and booking.

I haven't tried tying it up with Paypal but so far it has served me the 1st time (booking a hotel for tomorrow). I have yet to try it on purchasing apps (maybe when connection is better) and other stuff but I guess since this works like any Mastercard CC out there it certainly has to work. Will give you updates on this next time! (Just check updates below)

** UPDATE (4.1.12) **

I've been successful in adding this to Paypal Philippines and from there I was able to make a purchase from an international seller in Ebay and even pay for Android Apps. So much win!

** UPDATE (4.23.12) **

Payment

I'm successful in paying for this in Watson's and Teriyaki Boy although if they look at you funny just tell them to at least try.

Reload

For easier reload and less hassle, enroll your primary bank account (obviously has to be BPI) on your Globe handset then enroll this card as well (you have to enroll for it online and then wait for at least a week before you can actually reload this :-).) and whoala you can now reload your card anywhere you are! Best of all it won't take 24 hrs to reflect on your balance but just mere seconds :-D

Paypal

Find the E-prepaid to paypal blog here

** UPDATE (6.24.12) **

Pancake House didn't honor it (phew, at least I have cash!). It does work though, which I tried multiple times at SM Department Stores & Watson's outlets

** UPDATE (03.08.12) **

Just received an email from BPI, it looks credit limit is increased:

** UPDATE 8.5.2012 **

Here's the Paypal Update: http://www.misstinapie.blogspot.com/2012/08/problem-solved-bpi-e-prepaid-to-paypal.html

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Current Payroll of mine is in Megalink and all banks under that umbrella does not allow online transfer interbank inspite of being in that particular 'group' which is currently offered by Bancnet. They allow it's member banks (but not to any Megalink banks) in moving funds in several bank accounts for as long as they're on the group of banks (2 Bancnet, 3 Megalink personal accounts) takes extreme effort just to fund.

  1. Hi! great post you have here. I'm thinking of opening my own account too. :)

Just want to ask if you were able to purchase airline tickets using this card? I think PAL accepts this cards (as stated on their FAQs) although I'm not sure for CebuPac, AirPhil or ZestAir.

  2. I believe this will work since it's still Mastercard

    1. nope. just imagine that the 500 php is your annual fee like in a real credit card-- only that that 500 is once every 2 years unlike 1k++ every year for a regular credit card

pero yun, i think there are two sets of numbers you have to provide, one is the long one (front) and the one in the back is your CCID number and you will only provide it when asked.

      i hope this helps!

  9. hi tnx for the very informative blog.. im planning to have this card to buy online products.. but the only setback is why is it that they only allow 10k max for this card would have been a great deal if they allow 20-30k max

    1. i agree. i do hope they'd increase the limit soon :-)

    2. hi! i think the limit is not 10k but around 50k. 10k is the maximum load you can transfer thru online banking. but if you will do it over the counter, i think the max is 50k. check the bpi website for further info. :)

    4. Hello! I asked the BPI branch here malapit sa amin kung anong nangyayari if you want to automatically transfer funds from your regular savings acct to the e-prepaid card. You can actually transfer as much as you can basta limit is 100k for the e-prepaid card. Yung catch lang is, if example, you want to have 10k on your e-prepaid card, they will hold 12k on your savings account instead of just 10k. They explained to me that aside from the amount you want transferred (10k), they will hold 20% of that said amount from your savings account (2k). You won't be able to use the 20% at all, daw. So dapat at least bongga yung laman ng savings account mo if you want automatic fund transfers to e-prepaid card without worrying kung nauubusan ka na ng savings. :D

  13. hi Miss Tin,

Can you please share how you managed to link your my eprepaid to your paypal? Since I needed to view the two small amounts deposited by paypal to my eprepaid, I needed then to enroll it first to my bpi online which I did. I even submitted a printed form to a BPI branch and I was told that the additional account, which was my prepaid, will be reflected in my online account after 24 hours. But its more than 24 hours now and still none. I do hope you can share how you managed to successfully link your eprepaid to paypal.

    thanks much.

Navi-view ko na sya if I go go to the reload option ng express online account ko. It's just that it doesn't show up under My Portfolio. :(

  14. Hi Miss Tin and Padre Pio,

I emailed myeprepaid@bpi.com.ph for my concern and got a response within the day.
I enrolled my ePrepaid sa online account ko by going to My Portfolio and added credit card
in the option. Then you need to fill up the form, print and submit to any BPI nearest you.
You need to show your account number for verification.

The BPI personnel told me that my ePrepaid will reflect in my online account within
24 hours but nothing was reflected. So, I sent an email and they asked for my ePrepaid
account number and the branch I submitted the printed form for my ePrepaid online
    enrollment.

I received an email from the same BPI customer service informing me that they
contacted the BPI branch and that I could expect my ePrepaid will be reflected
within 24 hours. Also, if you need your PayPal code ASAP, customer service can provide
it through email. That's how I got mine while waiting for my ePrepaid to be reflected
    in my portfolio.

Also, when I called BPI hotline, CS agent told me that they cannot provide the PayPal verification code over the phone. Ang gulo nila no? :D Ahahay. Kelan ko kaya makukuha yang verification code na iyan.

Please note that the account number is the one you'll find the front :) nalito din ako nng una and I searched Mastercard on where to find what.

You can try sending customer service an email, ask for the PayPal code and provide your ePrapaid account number. Good luck.

    2. hi tin, I got my card already. In fact I can already view my express cash/card on my expressonline since the BPI guy link it to one of my BPI savings account the day I get my card, but why I can't transfer funds to it? Do I need to enroll it again or what? As far as I know it is already enrolled since I can already view it on my expressonline account.

    3. So I think, what BPI personnel did is just linked my eprepaid card to my savings account. I'm only allowed to view it on my Portfolio but when I try express cash reload, it always says no "express cash/card enrolled". This means it's not yet enrolled in reloading section thru expressonline. Anyway, thank you for the response.

    5. hmm. it's possible that it's not yet activated. do you have your globe number connected to your bpi savings? try the reload menu. if it doesn't show there, double check it with BPI when it will be activated. i remembered enrolling the prepaid card personally. i think it took a week before I was able to reload it online/via mobile

  41. hey tin i already activated the reloading thru expressonline but my problem now is I can't book flights and purchase online since merchants like ensogo.com.ph requires mastercard securecode. Where to get this securecode? Have you experienced it?

So i went tomy apple id to change my payment options which is cc to ecard. But the card was declined. Is it normal, will it take days or hours for my card to be updated or whatever? Thanks. Its my 1st reload ever but i have the card for about 2-3 months na din ata. :) thanks.

  48. HHi TinApie.

    Good day.

I just want to ask about online reloading. I got my prepaid card just this morning. When I got it, they asked me to fill out a form. I reviewed the form & signed the portion for Online Banking too.

I checked my account online and my prepaid card is now successfully linked to my savings. However, I tried to reload it using the Reload Prepaid Card Today option but it did not allow me, the error said that I don't have any enrolled card.

Do I need to submit another form aside from the one I submitted upon getting the card? Or should I just wait for a few more days?

I will really appreciate your response.

    Thank you very much!

    God bless!
    -Jammy

    1. I think you'd have to wait for a week first for them to activate it. If after that it's still not working, you can contact them directly.

      Thank you for your query!

      2. from the last time I applied, I think customization isn't available too.

  50. Hi TinAPie! Thanks for this very informative post.

I'm already planning to get one! But I'm wondering if this card can also be used to pay for official transactions (like international exam fees etc.)? Does it work just like a credit card? (My application form asks to write down the 16-digit account number and the CVV2 code, so I think it might work... )

Also, is there a way to have a receipt of the transaction even if you don't have a BPI express online account? The fees can be reimbursed, but in the past, I have done this by submitting a photocopy of the credit card billing statement. Is it possible to get something similar to this if the payment was not made thru paypal?

Sorry for barraging you with so many questions XD. Hope you can help me. :)

    1. It acts like a cc so it should. I haven't received such receipts though, unless of course the actual business I transact with provides it. Needless to say, I have not attempted to ask for such statements.
