Angels and Demons (5.15.9)

I wasn’t (again) supposed to watch this if it weren’t for the listing of the nearest mall from our house that had Star Trek for just a week. It’s either they think it’s not worth having it on their cinemas or they think X-Men Origins was any better (I think they had it for around 3 weeks. They are so biased). I was going to watch it anyway but my dream of seeing Zachary Quinto play Mr. Spock was something I’ve been talking about for weeks already. So everyone must realize how disappointed I was of not being able to see it on the big screen.

The only reason I wanted to watch this after they’ve spoiled the prequel/sequel of one of my favourite books of all time (Da Vinci Code) was because of seeing CERN, the inside of the Vatican and most especially the high-tech archives mentioned in the book. I was disappointed how quick they’ve shown CERN (they even shown LHC which have been published on numerous photos on magazines already so that didn’t exactly count) where the rooms didn’t really looked any mind-blogging. I haven’t been reading if the Vatican archives on this movie was any real but those where really cool. I so envy those people who have been inside.

Again, (well since I haven’t written a review on the Da Vinci Code, it’s been too far in the past already and I vowed never to watch it ever again) I’d like to present my aversion towards the choosing of Hanks on being Robert Langdon. I never had any idea Brown’s vision of the Langdon character has receding hairline and someone so old.

What surprised me though is that my preparation on seeing a worse movie than the first one wasn’t necessary at all because I’m quite fine with it. It was fast-paced, like most books turned into movies are but it was just right. I’ve read the book way back when but the things I expected to see were there so I am pretty satisfied. I was sceptic at some scenes at the end part though, because it wasn’t what I remembered so I think I’ll have to read it again so I’d stop being troubled. I wish I could have the time.

  1. I think " biased " is solely based on what is still selling tickets. I doubt any personal preference plays into it.

  6. X Men has way more cache with the movie going public here. As mass appealing as Star Trek was, there are way more inside jokes and sci references that would be over the top of any casual viewer

  7. One more thing. Jeffrey refuses to watch Star Trek. That's how much of a puritan he is about it.
