How the Rest of that Saturday Went (4.25.09)

Late------------------------------------------------------------- I overstayed in bed when I decided that I must post my previous movie reviews before preparing myself. Later on I thought that it’s still 9am when I went into the bath when Jin’s text came in, asking where am I already. I panicked seeing the time, it’s almost 11 and I’m still not on the bus! What’s disappointing is that we (me and Mark) were supposed to be the ones who invited to have Jin but he came way earlier than we did. There I came around 12, thank heavens Jin isn’t cursing me to death (it if was the other way around I would have because I’m such an impatient person) and Mark who was so late. I even heard HG from outside and as much as we want to come in I couldn’t because Mark has reserved the tickets to his name. Grr. Tokyo Tokyo ------------------------------------------------- I was up for Karate Kid to eat lunch (technically speaking it wasn’t because we ate there at around 2pm something) si

Uwaa! Regardless whether they are my contacts here in Multiply, I am very pleased to say that we (me, Mark and Jin) really had a wonderful time on the Maid/Butler cafe. Our butlers were awfully nice and like one of them said (I’m betting it was Devin (gosh gosh please correct me I’m really poor at remembering names) ‘We are here to serve you’. I couldn’t say much about Bona’s food (they tied up with them, and it’s a brilliant idea I’d say because their duties are and should be more focused on the service), their sandwich was a bit, uhm, dry? But the Italian soda (I had Kiwi) was nice and their peanut butter cookie was too. I didn’t, however had executed my evil plan of ordering a muffin (Shido (again, please correct me with the name) tried asking for it to the Head Butler who was nice to say they can’t) out of the meals they’ve set but the experience, let me reiterate, was truly delightful. I am though, really sorry for our Butlers for being such a boring bunch, I am reall

Awake (4.19.09)

Rating: ★★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Mystery & Suspense I was wrong with what I expected here twice. Once was when I thought that this must be another inspirational flick about some sort of sickness the rest of us aren't aware of (e.g. Lorenzo's Oil, A Beautiful Mind). A few minutes later, when the focus was on the couple played by Alba and Christensen, I thought I was tricked of watching a love story. Then much later, I found out I just hit jackpot. What they did with the movie was really, in my opinion unexpected. I didn't know that they would swerve to that 'conspiracy' direction and when they did, it was subtle and it was enough to have my senses wake up and say 'Woow'. There wasn't too much drama incorporated though, but it was the plot that got me all grinning when it was all revealed. But to those paying attention, obviously you'd get hints at some parts which was conspicously arranged so you'd never guess till later. With this

Juan’s Bistro, Culture Crash, (Our) Traffic (4.13.9 - 4.17.9)

Juan’s Bistro---------------------------------------------------------- Finally the dinner date of us three (minus 1, she’s currently in Canada and she can’t make it hehe) just came true! We haven’t been out for the longest time and I haven’t seen Chel for almost a year already (unlike Ate who I regularly go out with next to my kumare). I’ve been hanging out with Meanne too much lately but it seems like I don’t have time with my *acquired sisters. I came there the earliest (even if I came all the way from Cavite) because I was expecting heavy traffic yet I came there no more than an hour. Ate even told me that her biological older sister was laughing of my backfired plan. Initially I wanted us to dine at Chef d Angelo’s but their place is already full and Juan’s Bistro was not nearing to one. I had Pork Liempo and they ordered dishes I forgot what were and talked practically about everything. Later on we went to shoot some hoops at Timezone (I think I haven’t used my car

Programming and Sweet Irony (3/30 – 4/3)

Programming For the whole 16 months I’ve been working as a developer there are three things I’ve learned and probably true to most with the same job: 1.       The user gets what they want no matter what. Yes. As I’ve said once here before, the user is the worst form of customer ever because, even if they aren’t right, they always get the last say. You may convince them to some of your ideas but the moment they sniffed they are out of control they bombard you with incredulous specs you wish you can strangle them as soon as after office hours. 2.       If you’ve already exhausted your resources, ask. Always. If there are some things you are not aware, or are having problems with, ask. Consult with as many people as possible and do not underestimate any co-worker. They may have already encountered such problems before. 3.       Never over think the solution and never forget to always keep it simple. One of the biggest problems of a senior programmer is over thinking on how t

Rating: ★★★★★ Category: Movies Genre: Mystery & Suspense Another film people around me kept on saying it wasn’t worth seeing. Why?! Have I seen a different version? For me it really is good. It’s just a bit unfair they don’t see the beauty of it. I was actually hoping that the reason why they (most of whom who didn’t like it were males) was seeing Depp in a musical. I’ve watched prior that Burton wanted the actors to use their own voices (something our ‘artistas’ would never do even with a gun on their heads and when they have the nerve to you’d wishing you had a gun pointed at your head) and I think that their dedication towards their craft really shows (I really like Carter’s voice. It’s so cute!!!). I don’t know it with you guys but there is something really engrossing in stories set on such time line, all the corsets, murky sewers, soot all over London and the pale skin. It just seems so riveting. Not to mention the accent too. The wickedness of the characters

The Race To The Witch Mountain (3.21.9)

Rating: ★★ Category: Movies Genre: Kids & Family After losing to *RPS with one of my long time girlfriends on what to watch, we ended with this one (I was really vying for Taken, my officemate said it was a bit violent and you know how I am with that lately) over a bucket of popcorn. In the end I would have made it 3 stars just for the simplicity of it, like ok fine, it still does in a way looked like a movie, if it weren’t for the effects on the bullets (which they have the nerve to even make close ups of, imagine it even when seen on IMAX). I thought we already have the technology for that (Superman) yet this one made it all cheap and pitiful. Obvioulsy, this one did’nt really looked challenging in terms of acting, I can’t even figure out who the target audience was, because the kid aliens weren’t really something that would make the kids in real life talk for hours of (and their parents who were probably regretting the spent time) . She, Anna Sophia was even annoying me
